Ring Resizing in Ottawa

A ring that spins, pinches or will not pass your knuckle is a ring you stop wearing. Ring resizing at Noura’s Jewellery in Alta Vista Plaza, Ottawa, brings it back to a comfortable, secure fit. We measure your finger, look closely at the ring and explain the best method before any work begins. The resizing itself is done in our own in-store workshop, with the care a wedding band, an engagement ring or a family heirloom deserves.

A ring mandrel shows the size a ring actually is. After resizing, the band settles at the new size.

Does your ring need resizing?

It spins or slipsThe stone turns to the side, or the ring slides off when your hands are cold.
It pinches or leaves a markA red line or a bulge of skin after a few hours of wear.
It sticks at the knuckleIt goes on with soap and a twist, and you avoid taking it off.

Fingers change with the seasons, weight, pregnancy and age, and most are slightly larger in the evening. If a ring has felt wrong for several weeks, not just on one hot or cold day, it is time to check your size.

How we resize a ring

  1. 1Measure the finger and the ring
  2. 2Cut the band at the back
  3. 3Add or remove a small piece of matching gold
  4. 4Solder the joint
  5. 5Round, file and polish until the joint disappears
The usual way a plain metal band is made smaller or larger. Rings with stones around the band may need a different method.

To make a ring smaller, a small piece of metal is removed from the back of the band and the ends are joined. To make it larger, matching metal is added. The joint is soldered, rounded on a mandrel and polished until it disappears when the ring is worn.

Rings that need special care

When resizing is not the right choice, we suggest alternatives such as sizing beads, a ring guard or a redesign. Our ring resizing guide explains all of this in more depth.

How it works at Noura’s

  1. We measure your finger

With professional ring sizers, thinking about the band width and your knuckle, not a printable chart.

  2. We inspect the ring

Stones, prongs, band thickness and earlier repairs are checked before any work.

  3. You hear the method, price and timing

Before anything is done. If resizing is not right for your ring, we say so.

  4. Resized in our workshop

Many rings are resized in about 30 minutes while you wait.

  5. You try it on

It is ready only when it feels right to you.

Frequently asked questions

How many sizes can a ring be changed?

Many rings can be adjusted by about one or two sizes. Larger changes depend on the ring and are confirmed after we see it.

How long does resizing take?

Many rings are resized in about 30 minutes while you wait. Rings with stones or special metals may take longer, and we confirm the timing first. We confirm timing when we see the ring.

Will the resize show?

On a suitable ring, a well-made resize should not be visible once the ring is finished and polished.

Can you resize a ring I bought online?

Yes, if the ring is suitable. Bring it in and we will check.
