Selling gold should feel simple, fair and safe. At Noura’s Jewellery in Alta Vista Plaza, Ottawa, you bring your gold to a real jewellery shop with its own workshop, a goldsmith sorts, weighs and tests it, and you hear a clear offer based on today’s gold price. The quote is free, there is no obligation, and if you accept, you are paid on the spot. Whether you have a drawer of old chains, a single earring, a broken bracelet or a ring you will never wear again, this page explains exactly how we value your gold and how to get the best price for it.

Why sell your gold to Noura’s Jewellery
Many gold buyers are middlemen: they buy your gold, then sell it on to a refiner or a wholesaler, and every step in that chain takes a share of the value. Noura’s works differently. We are a jewellery shop with our own workshop, and we turn gold into new jewellery ourselves. Because we do not depend on reselling your gold through someone else, more of its value can go back to you.
- Free, no-obligation quotes. You are welcome to hear our offer, think about it and walk away. There is never a charge for an assessment.
- Prices based on today’s market. Our offer follows the live gold price, so you are paid for what your gold is worth now, not last week.
- We will beat a written quote. Bring a written quote from another Ottawa gold buyer and we will beat it.
- Paid on the spot. Accept the offer and you are paid during the same visit, in cash, by e-Transfer or by another method you prefer. No waiting, no cheques in the mail.
- No appointment needed. Walk in during opening hours, or book a time if you prefer.
- 17 years of experience. A real Ottawa jeweller at Alta Vista Plaza, with a workshop on site and a team you can talk to face to face.
What gold we buy
We buy gold in almost any form and any condition. It does not need to be clean, complete or fashionable: a tangled chain or a single earring is worth the gold it contains.
We also buy dental gold, gold coins, gold bars, silver and platinum. If your gold jewellery is set with diamonds, the diamonds are assessed separately; see selling diamonds.

How we work out your offer
Every gold offer comes down to three numbers: how pure the gold is, how much of it there is, and what gold is worth today. We measure the first two in the shop and take the third from the live market.
1. Purity: the karat
Pure gold is 24 karat. Jewellery is mixed with other metals to make it stronger, so a 14K chain is 14 parts gold out of 24, or about 58.5%, and 18K is 75%. Tap a karat below to see how much of the metal is really gold.
2. Weight: only the gold counts
Your pieces are sorted by karat and weighed on a jeweller’s scale. Stones, steel springs, pearls and other non-gold parts are not counted as gold, so the weight that matters is the gold itself.
3. Today’s gold price
Gold is priced per troy ounce on the world market and changes through the day. Multiply the weight by the purity and the price, and you have the market value of the gold inside your piece. This example is calculated live from today’s price:
A buyer’s offer is a percentage of that market value, because the gold still has to be refined or reworked before it can be used again. The difference between buyers is how large that percentage is, and how honestly the weight and karat are measured. That is where we work hard to be the best choice in Ottawa.

How to read the stamps on your gold
Most gold jewellery carries a small stamp, usually inside a ring or near a clasp. North American pieces often show the karat (10K, 14K), while European pieces use the parts per thousand (417, 585, 750).
Stamps can be worn away, and some plated or filled jewellery carries marks such as GP, GF or HGE, which mean only a thin layer of gold. That is why we test every piece rather than rely on the stamp alone. Learn more in our gold purity guide.
Seven tips to get the best price for your gold
- Check today’s price first. Look at our live gold prices so you know what the market is doing before you visit.
- Group your pieces by karat. If you can read the stamps, keep 10K, 14K and 18K apart. It makes the assessment faster and clearer.
- Do not clean or polish with chemicals. It adds nothing to the value and can damage stones or soft metals.
- Tell us about any stones. Diamonds and gemstones are not paid as gold weight, so ask about them separately.
- Bring every piece, even broken ones. Single earrings, snapped chains and bent rings are paid for their gold just like perfect pieces.
- Compare written quotes, not phone estimates. A price per gram means little until the karat and weight are confirmed. Bring a written quote and we will beat it.
- Think twice about sentimental pieces. A family ring might be better redesigned than sold. See jewellery redesign.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an appointment to sell gold?
No. You can walk in during opening hours: Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can also book a free visit if you would like a set time.
Do you buy broken or damaged gold?
Yes. Broken chains, bent rings, single earrings and worn-out pieces are bought for the gold they contain. Condition does not change the value of the gold itself.
Will you really beat another buyer’s price?
Yes. Bring a written quote from another Ottawa gold buyer for the same pieces and we will beat it. Because we use gold in our own workshop instead of reselling it, we can offer strong prices.
When do I get paid?
On the spot. Once you accept the offer, you are paid during the same visit.
Is the online calculator my final price?
The calculators give a good estimate from the weight and karat you enter. The final offer is confirmed once we have tested and weighed your actual pieces.
What happens to the diamonds in my gold jewellery?
Stones are not counted as gold weight. Diamonds and other gemstones are assessed separately, and you can choose to sell them, keep them or reuse them in a new piece.
What should I bring?
Bring the gold you want to sell, plus any receipts, certificates or original boxes for branded or diamond pieces. For other questions about your visit, see our questions and answers.
