Sell Diamonds in Ottawa

Noura’s Jewellery buys diamonds in Ottawa, both loose stones and diamonds set in rings, earrings, pendants and bracelets. A diamond is one of the hardest things to sell with confidence. Its value depends on details you cannot see with the naked eye, and offers can vary widely from one buyer to the next. At Noura’s Jewellery in Alta Vista Plaza, Ottawa, we examine your diamond or diamond jewellery in person, explain what we see and why it matters, and give you a clear, free offer. The gold or platinum setting is valued separately at today’s market price, and if you accept, you are paid on the spot.

  1. CaratThe weight of the diamond. One carat is 0.2 grams.
  2. CutHow well the facets return light. It drives the sparkle.
  3. ColourFrom colourless (D) to light yellow or brown. Less colour is rarer.
  4. ClarityTiny inclusions or marks, seen under magnification.
Natural and laboratory-grown diamonds look alike but are valued very differently, so every stone is examined in person.

What decides the value of a diamond

The jewellery trade describes diamonds with the four Cs, and together they explain most of the difference in price between two stones that look similar.

Two more questions matter just as much today. Is it natural or laboratory-grown? Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds, but their resale value is very different. What condition is it in? Chips, abrasion and damaged settings all affect the offer.

Grading reports: helpful, not the whole story

If your diamond came with a report from a gemological laboratory, bring it. A report describes the stone and makes the conversation faster. We still examine the diamond itself, to confirm it matches the report and to check its condition today.

The setting is paid as precious metal

A diamond ring is two things: a stone and a mount. The gold or platinum mount is valued by its purity and weight at today’s market price, separately from the diamond, so you can see exactly what each part is worth.

Before you sell a diamond

  1. Bring every document you have: grading reports, receipts and appraisals.
  2. Do not remove the stone from its setting. We can assess it as it is.
  3. Understand appraisals. An insurance appraisal is a replacement cost in a store, not a resale price.
  4. Consider your options. A diamond from an old ring can be reset into a new design you will wear. See jewellery redesign.
  5. Ask questions. We will explain what we see, in plain language, before you decide.

Frequently asked questions

Do you buy loose diamonds?

Yes. We buy loose diamonds as well as diamonds set in jewellery.

Can I get a price for my diamond online?

Not reliably. A diamond’s value depends on details that can only be confirmed in person. Our online calculators estimate metal value only.

Do you buy laboratory-grown diamonds?

Bring them in and we will assess them. Lab-grown diamonds have a much lower resale value than natural diamonds, and we will explain the difference honestly. The precious-metal setting is still valued at today’s price.

Why is a resale offer lower than the appraisal?

An appraisal for insurance estimates what it would cost to buy a similar new piece in a store, including the retailer’s costs and margin. A resale offer reflects what the stone and metal are worth today on the secondary market.

Can I keep the diamond and sell only the gold?

Yes. Ask us about removing the stone in our workshop and selling the setting, or reusing the diamond in a new piece.
