How bullion is valued

Bullion is valued by its fine metal content: weight multiplied by purity, at today’s market price. Most bars are 999.9 fine gold or 999 fine silver, and their weight is stamped on the bar. We confirm both before making an offer.

Why the buy-back price differs from the purchase price

When you buy bullion, you pay the metal value plus a premium for minting, distribution and the dealer’s costs. When you sell, a buyer pays close to the metal value, minus a small spread for testing and handling. Knowing this helps you compare offers properly.

The premium covers minting, distribution, insurance and the dealer’s costs. Small coins and collectible pieces carry higher premiums than large bars.
