How jewellery is valued

Every piece of jewellery has up to three layers of value, and a good buyer looks at all of them before making an offer.

024 parts

Each block is one part out of 24. Gold blocks are pure gold; the rest is other metals such as silver, copper, zinc or palladium.

Sell, repair or redesign?

Because we are a full jewellery shop with our own workshop, selling is only one option. A broken chain can often be repaired, a ring can be resized, and the gold and stones from pieces you no longer wear can become something new. We are happy to talk through all three before you decide.

Why sell your jewellery to Noura’s

Before you bring your jewellery

  1. Gather everything, including single earrings, broken pieces and loose stones.
  2. Bring paperwork such as receipts, appraisals or diamond grading reports, and original boxes for branded pieces.
  3. Do not try to remove stones yourself; you can damage both the stone and the setting.
  4. Set aside pieces with sentimental value and ask us about redesign before deciding to sell them.
  5. Check today’s prices on our gold prices page before you come in.

Frequently asked questions

Do you buy broken jewellery?

Yes. Broken, bent and incomplete pieces are bought for the precious metal they contain, and any stones are assessed separately.

Do you buy costume or plated jewellery?

Costume and plated jewellery contain little or no precious metal, so they usually have no melt value. If you are not sure what you have, bring it in and we will tell you honestly.

Is a retail appraisal the same as a selling price?

No. An insurance or retail appraisal estimates the cost of replacing a piece new in a store. A selling price reflects what the metal and stones are worth today, which is usually much lower.

Can I sell only part of my jewellery?

Of course. We can give you a price for each piece so you can choose what to sell and what to keep.

Will you beat another buyer’s price?

Yes. Bring a written quote from another Ottawa buyer for the same pieces and we will beat it.
