Platinum is one of the most valuable precious metals in fine jewellery, and it is often mistaken for white gold or silver. If you have a platinum wedding band, an engagement ring setting, a chain or a platinum bar or coin, it deserves to be valued as platinum. At Noura’s Jewellery in Alta Vista Plaza, Ottawa, we identify and test your platinum, quote from today’s market price, and pay you on the spot when you accept. The quote is free and there is no obligation.

Platinum we buy

Is it platinum or white gold?
Platinum and white gold can look almost identical, especially when white gold is freshly rhodium plated. The stamp is the first clue. Platinum jewellery is usually marked with its purity in parts per thousand, often with PT or PLAT.
- Platinum feels heavier than a gold ring of the same size, because it is a denser metal.
- Platinum does not turn yellow as it wears; white gold can show a warm tone where the plating has worn away.
- Stamps can mislead, so we always confirm with testing rather than relying on the mark alone.
How platinum is valued
Platinum is valued by purity and weight at today’s market price. Most jewellery is 950 platinum, meaning 95% pure. Stones and non-platinum parts are not counted. Here are today’s platinum rates, updated from the live market:
| Metal & purity | CAD / gram |
|---|---|
| Fine platinum | 67.32 |
