How silver coins are valued
Bullion coins are valued by the pure silver they contain at today’s market price. A 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf contains one troy ounce of 99.99% silver. Older circulation coins contain less silver than their total weight, because they were made from alloys such as 80% or 50% silver, so each type is calculated by its actual silver content.
