Why dental gold must be tested
Dental alloys are very different from jewellery gold. A yellow crown might contain a high percentage of gold, a much lower one, or a mix of gold with palladium, platinum and silver. Colour tells you very little, and dental pieces are rarely stamped. That is why every piece is tested before we make an offer.
- High-gold alloys are often used for crowns and inlays.
- Palladium and other white alloys can look silver but still carry precious-metal value.
- Porcelain-fused crowns have a metal base under the porcelain; only the metal has value.
- Teeth and cement are not counted in the weight.
